Pamper Yourself This New Year with 4G Service from VIVA

VIVA has just announced that it will offer 4G mobile services with the beginning of the new year, i.e. in just a couple of weeks. This is major news for mobile users. There’s a huge difference between 3G and 4G mobile networks, mostly summarized in the following:

  • 4G internet speed is 10 times that of a 3G network. We’re talking about 100Mbps for a moving user (in a car or a train) and 1Gbps for a pedestrian or stationary user.
  • The availability of Quality of Service (QoS) feature, which means that internet connection priority is given to certain important applications like VoIP and HD videos first, above other nonessential uses.
  • This feature ensures a flawless VoIP connection at all times for mobile users, and the ability to watch HD videos right from their handsets.
  • 4G won’t affect\improve\worsen call quality and call drops, so don’t expect any improvement or change in this area.

VIVA 4G coverage in Kuwait will start by covering a few high-use areas in the beginning, but VIVA’s Chairman promised that 4G investment will be ongoing all through 2012, which should ensure complete Kuwait coverage.

To give you an idea how this VIVA launching is such a big deal, the USA didn’t get any 4G coverage till Q3&4 of this year, and only covering a limited number of cities, 62 cities so far.

I’m personally looking forward to testing this new 4G technology, so I guess it is right about time to upgrade my ancient 2-year old 9700 BB to something more 4G compatible. Any BB recommendations?

It’ll be a good thing to do too, i.e. comparing a 4G VIVA BB with a 3.5G Zain iPhone. So far I’m not very convinced that my Zain iPhone can replace my Quality-Net home wi-fi connection (or even the ego one in chale), which is kinda the point of getting a 3G connection on your smartphone in the first place.

Super congrats goes out to VIVA. This is really awesome news. Hopefully, coverage will be over most areas users want, and the service will be kind of acceptable in terms of pricing and usage caps.

What’s the use if your 21.6 does not get you a 10 megabit speed download from VIVA.. you would be lucky if you get a 3 or 4… , and you have a download limit of 1 GB a day… Yes.. faster speeds are awesome… but I’d be happy with 21.6 working at 21.6 uncapped…

    Just my $0.02

I agree. We never get the speeds we sign up for. I don’t use viva, I’m with zain, but even my connection with them is at “normal” speed at best.

Same thing for dsl wifi speeds too.
