Official: Janet Jackson married Qatari Wissam Al-Mana

Janet Jackson married her Qatari boyfriend Wissam Al-Mana in a secret ceremony last year. ET reports this short statement from the secretly married couple:

“The rumours regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quiet, private, and beautiful ceremony. Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favourite children’s charities. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy. With love, Wissam and Janet”.

Janet has a fancy for secret weddings. The last time she did that, no one knew of it till she got divorced 9 years later.

The couple have been dating for a while now, you can check their pics [here], [here], and [here]. There was some talk last month of Janet perhaps getting a half billion pre-nup if they ever divorced.

Congratulations to the happy couple, and kudus to Mrs. jackson for getting Wissam to marry her. Let that power and respect spread to other couples in our region, may they too make honest men and women out of their dating partners. Let them put a stop to the love them and leave them scenarios.

Behind the scenes at Kim Kardashian’s Hia magazine cover shoot

Kim Kardashian graces the latest cover of Hia magazine, a leading Arabic publication. Hia posted this behind-the-scenes video footage of Kim’s photo shoot. They’re basically promoting her as the “Arabian Bride” or something similar.

The theme of the shoot is a veiled and hair covered Kim, with an overly exposed cleavage. If you’re easily offended by this kind of do-up, then you might want to skip the vid and just look at the more tame magazine cover.

Here’s a quote from Kim regarding the shoot:

New music video by Kuwaiti musician Zahed Sultan

Here’s the latest vid of Kuwaiti musician and environmentalist Zahed Sultan; the first Kuwaiti ever to have his music vid air on MTV, VH1 and on CSI. In his latest vid, he goes political and tries to capture the pre and post events of the Arab Spring. This is how he describes the vid:

“Like This (ha-ka-tha)” pays tribute to the social frustrations that have plagued the MENA region prior to the Arab Spring. In classical spoken-word Arabic, Zahed calls upon the Arab people to stand in unity, against tyranny, with a sense of civic pride.

I Thought It Was Just A Joke

Yesterday some people on Twitter were talking about لحس الكوع , and I just thought they were joking and fooling around. But this “La7s El-Kou3″ thing turned out to be quite a serious matter.

The Sudanese people have decided to defy their government and go out protesting in the streets, after their vice-president belittled and ridiculed them in a very derogatory and unacceptable way.

This whole thing began when the Sudanese objected over the government’s plan to increase prices and decrease public spending. The people were already fed up with elevated levels of inflation and expensive price hikes. The peaceful and passive objections turned into verbal protests, and that’s when their vice-president made his very provocative comment. He disrespectfully dared them to: “first lick their elbows before trying to protest the government”.

So the sudanese turned by the thousands in a “Lick Your Elbow” Friday protest. More than a thousand people have been arrested so far, with hundreds more injured and missing (i.e. secretly detained by the authorities).

Shamma Hamdan is the latest khalijiya to make it in Arabs Got Talent. She’s a young 17 year old teenager from the UAE, who has a wonderful voice.

It turns out that Shamma is quite famous too, she’s got pictures of her with Sh. Moh’d Al-Maktoum, Al-Jasmi, Fayez Al-S3eed, and holding several awards.

Here are a few pics of her (all from Google). If the judges (especially Najwa’s opinion) are honest in their praise of her singing talent, then we sure will be seeing a lot more of her in the near future.
