Sprinkles cupcakes will officially open in Grand Avenue next Tuesday Feb. 12th. It’s one of the best dessert bakeries in the world, and this would be their 1st ever branch outside of the USA. Their Beverly Hills shop is so popular in LA, the line goes round the block.

Desert camping food tips from Diet Center

This is an helpful vid by the Diet Center full of food tips for those who love camping in the desert, and don’t want to put on a lot of weight with all that food consumption. Here’s a few easy ones:

  • Try low fat cheese and yogurt instead of full cream ones.
  • Eat boiled eggs rather than oily scrambled ones.
  • Have lean meat cuts for your meat machboos, and skinless chicken for the chicken one.
  • Have a bowl of salad before the main course, to fill you up so you won’t eat as much.
  • Steer clear of processed hotdogs, have either rice or bread for diner but not both, and eat more grilled meats instead of oily kababs.
  • As for snacks, have popcorn instead of chips. Eat smaller quantities of traditional desserts, preferably the cheese and not the cream ones. And finally, have a fruit salad instead of chocolates and cupcakes.

  • They have a new Coconut flavor, with oatmeal coconut crumble and flake chocolate toppings.

Twinkies is dead, Hostess goes belly up

Hostess, the maker of Twinkies and CupCakes, announced its bankruptcy. The Co. is shutting down operations after more than 80 years in the baking business.

Their chocolate cupcakes are my most favorite dessert. It hasn’t sold in Kuwait since pre-invasion, but I still get them from my friends in Saudi Arabia and from American camps in Kuwait.

I’m bummed by the news, and I’m sure Twinkie lovers are even more depressed than I am. Hostess is a stable of american foods, just like Kraft and Nabisco. It’s a sad day to see it go.

For 3eed, I ordered my sweets from Kakao. I made an order for qraiba, which comes in 4 different flavors including pistachio and pecan. The arrangment came out lovely, and i can’t wait for 3eed to unwrap the trays.

I was going to buy chocolates for 3eed, but then I thought qraiba was more traditional. And what better way to end Ramadan than with something kuwaiti and old. I’m glad I did, because the qraiba turned out to be cheaper than chocolates, so I’m also happy about that.

New KDD creme caramel ice-cream آيس كريم جديد كريم كراميل من كي دي دي

KDD have a new Creme Caramel ice-cream flavor. I gave the new taste a try last night, here’s what I thought of it:

  • The ice-cream didn’t taste like creme caramel, but more like a sweet rich vanilla ice-cream.
  • It had tiny bits of nuts and chocolate mixed with the ice-cream, which made it taste like a deluxe version of their Thahab ice-cream.
  • I thought the syrup on top was the creme caramel flavor, but it wasn’t. It was more of a very light toffee or plain caramel flavor.

I wouldn’t say the new flavor is great, because it really isn’t. But I did find it tastier than their plain vanilla, and some of the tiny bits add a nice flavor too.

Give it a try if you want a fancy version of a vanilla ice-cream. But if you’re looking for pure creme caramel (or even caramel) flavor, then I suggest you skip this one.

Review of The British Bakery Kuwait

I had a taste of some desserts from the newly established The British Bakery, and they were amazing.

The dessert I had is called “Mini Sweets”. They are round balls covered with coconut shavings, and smelled really tempting. When I took my first bite, the texture reminded me of qraiba and I was afraid it would be just as dry. But it tasted nothing like qraiba, it was surprisingly moist (which was weird, because it wasn’t wet), and had sweet tiny marshmallows inside.

I definitely recommend these treats, they were very yummy. The box I had was the large balls, 10-12 balls, but they also have small size balls 40 per box. Both boxes are sold for KD 10.
