Oprah Winfrey is back to acting

She’s in a supporting role, the wife of the main character in “The Butler”. This is Oprah’s first major acting gig after the Color Purple in 1985. The story and trailer are fascinating, and I hope the movie turns out as good.

The Great Gatsby trailer

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of America’s top 20th century novels, described as the epitome of American Literature. The character of Mr. Gatsby is the perfection of the cool, always poised, never phased rich men of leisure.

The novel is a great short read, and is set in the roaring 20′s when extravagant parties and spending was at its widest. The trailer makes the novel look more dramatic and fast-paced than it really is, but it also makes the novel look even more fantastic. If you haven’t read the novel yet, then try to read it before the movie comes out next month.

Warm Bodies: One of the nicest movies this year

Warm Bodies movie poster

Warm Bodies tops the box-office after a week of release in the US. It’s one of the nicest and funniest movies, despite its Zombie backstory. Such a lovely and lighthearted movie, really pleasant to watch.

The movies is based on bestselling novel. The novel, just like the movie, is lighthearted and funny. This is the link to the [book] on amazon.

Why I think Zero Dark Thirty is banned in Kuwait

Zero Dark Thirty Kuwait Bribe Lamborghini

The movie Zero Dark Thirty (about the hunt and capture of Osama Bin Laden) has been banned in Kuwait.

I’ve already seen the uncut version of the movie so I have a fairly good idea why the movie was banned. Now keep in mind that I personally have a semi-wide open mind of my country, so I’m not so easily offended by foreign (and less than ideal) depiction of it in movies. That been said, I do hope what I have to offer carries some weight as to why I think the movie was banned.

The culprit scenario goes like this, as in it goes in either one of those two scenarios:

  • A Kuwaiti gentleman supplied the CIA with the phone number of Abu-Ahmad (his mom’s number at least) in  exchange for a Lamborghini car as bribe. I don’t know about you, but I sure think it would take more than a Lamborghini to bribe a Kuwaiti. But hey, that’s just my own personal opinion.
  • That same Kuwaiti had met the CIA in a not so believable nightclub scene in Kuwait. The scene depicted Philippino waitresses\bartenders walking and dancing around in a stereo typical disco setting. That was so unbelievable, even to the  naive teenager sitting beside me, who thought they surly had meant Dubai and not Kuwait with it.

There you have it, my two cents about why the movie was banned in Kuwait.

All said and done, it was a fine cinematic movie (and so deserving of its 5 Oscar nominations) though albeit a bit unbelievable, especially after witnessing the less-than-believable Kuwaiti scene.

Anyways, here’s the official trailer to the movie:

The Hobbit now showing in Grand Cinemas Al-Hamra

The Hobbit Grand cinemas Kuwait 2  The Hobbit Grand cinemas Kuwait

I didn’t know this, but The Hobbit is already out in Kuwait, since this past weekend. It’s exclusively shown over at Grand Cinemas Al-Hamra. The Hobbit is part of the Lord of The Rings story, and has broken major records in the US and internationally since its release. It even broke Avatar’s opening weekend numbers.

The Hobbit is the first movie to ever be shot in 48 fps, but I don’t know if that’s what they’re showing here in Kuwait. We’ll have to go see the movie to find out.

New Star Trek movie trailer

This is very exciting. I’m a huge Star Trek fan, I especially love the original TV series and movies. I’m not a fan of the “New Generation” show or movies phase, they made me lose all my previous interest in the franchise.

But then in 2009, J.J. Abrams brought us a brand new version of Star Trek, with a brand new cast, telling us the foundation story of Star Trek and its stars. That move was awesome, just like the original ones were, only better.

Here’s the trailer of Abram’s second Star Trek movie, which is called “Star Trek into Darkness” and will come out next May. I really can’t wait for this movie to come out.

The Beyonce HBO documentary

Here’s a short teaser of the upcoming Beyonce HBO documentary, which is supposed to air next Feb. It’s also directed by Beyonce.

Die Hard is Back!!

Die Hard is back with movie #5: A Good Day To Die Hard.

Its release date is next Valentine’s day.

Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln movie trailer

Lincoln, the Steven Spielberg movie about President Abraham Lincoln, will be released in the US this November. It stars a host of Academy Award winning actors: daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln, then you’ve got Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones, AND Joseph Gordon Levitt. These are all serious and super great actors.

The movie is a serious and historic one, unlike Lincoln the Vampire Slayer movie that was out this summer. Considering the all-star cast, and the fact it’s a Spielberg movie, I say it’s definitely worth watching.

Cloud Atlas movie trailer

Cloud Atlas is a movie starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, and it’s based on a novel by the same name. The movie comes out this October, which gives me just about enough time to go through the book.

The story revolves around what I would call multiple reincarnations, and on the consequences your actions have on all your lives in all their reincarnations: past, present, and future. From the trailer, it looks like Hanks and Berry are two people whose souls are connected throughout the ages and centuries. They keep on getting a strong sense of Di Ja Vu, which is weird, because the two of them always look so different. All their actions transcend into their other reincarnated characters too, which makes you really think about what you do in this life, and how it affects your next one.

The movie comes out Oct. 26th, and it looks like it could be one of those moving mind-challenging philosophical movies that shouldn’t be missed.

The trailer above is a short 2 minute version. There’s a longer 5 minute one; and it’s scarier, more thrilling and moving. It basically offers more into the story line that the short trailer. I’ll post it here if you want to watch it too.
