The Kuwaiti film: Kan Refeeji فيلم كان رفيجي

Kan Refeeji is a new Kuwaiti film, and it will be shown in cinemas around Kuwait in Eid. I don’t know what the story is about, but it’s got a nostalgic feeling about it. It showed stuff from the 80′s, the actors soft spoken, and it looks like it has a good (or at least a lesson-worthy) ending.

Star filled movie you’ve never heard of

The Grand Hotel Budapest movie

This movie starts at least a dozen of the world’s most well known and very respected actors and actresses. It’s a mystery that we haven’t heard about it before. The Grand Hotel Budapest just came out last month. I myself hadn’t heard of it, and if I did, I probably just dismissed it as a Nazi era political and boring movie. I was blown away with its trailer, how funny and hilarious the story is.

The movie stars Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, and a many many more.

Religious movies coming out this year

Two religious movies about prophets are coming out this year. “Son of God’, which is obviously about Jesus, comes out at the end of Feb. While “Noah” comes out at the end of March.

No doubt both movies will be banned in Kuwait. I personally am looking forward to seeing Son of God, it just looks so dramatic and fascinating.

The Family movie trailer

The Family movie poster

“The Family” stars Robert Dinero, Tommy Lee Jones, and Michele Pfeiffer. It’s based on a novel named “Badfellas” or “Malavita”. The trailer intrigued me, so I read the book. The story is about a Mob boss who snitches on Mafia lords, and gets sent to witness protection in France. I don’t want to spoil the story, but the trailer will fill you on what happens there anyway.

The trailer is more interesting than the book, but at least the book was a short read. If you’re looking for a silly light read, then get this book. The movie comes out next month, and I can’t wait to see it. I love Tommy Lee Jones.

ROBOCOB is back

The 1980′s popular action movie is back, and Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson join the fun in supporting roles. This new rebocob is softer and more compassionate than the original one, the old one was frighteningly cold. The movie comes out Feb. 2014.

The Wolf of Wall Street movie trailer

This is a movie made after a book of the same name. The book is a real life biography, but reads like a fictional novel. It (the book) is entertaining and funny, has elements of the fancy attractive worlds of money, investment, drugs, and crazy parties. The guy made it big, lead a wild life, then lost it all. We’re talking about making a million bucks a week kind of money. Craziness like using dwarfs as throw darts, wearing cash into Switzerland, and sinking Coco Chanel’s yacht.

I never really finished reading the book, it was just too long. And the stuff written there, while true and real, were a bit too delusional for me to honestly believe and keep reading. But, it’s a book I continue to read in segments over time.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jordan Belfort, with Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey as his crazy business partner and lawyer. Oh and the movie is directed by Martin Scorsese, like you needed any more convincing to watch. It comes out this November.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie trailer

Catching fire movie Hunger Games

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire comes out on Nov. 22. I like the book, so it looks like I’ll be adding this movie to my ever growing have-to-watch list. I might also re-read the novel, to catch up with it again before the movie is out.

My list so far includes Catching Fire, the wikileaks movie and the Lego movie,

Sharknado: illogical yet buzzing movie

Sharknado movie 2

Sharknado movie

Tornado is a movie about a tornado filled with sharks, flying over and attacking LA, killing people and what not. It’s a super silly movie, one that I didn’t even believe was a real one. When I heard about it last week, I just thought it was a loopy joke like  someone making up a fake movie trailer.

Turns out the movie is real. Still ridiculously silly, but none the less very real. Forget about the silliness of a tornado hitting LA, or that it’s filled with sharks. What’s even more annoying is the omg absurd ways the characters used to kill off the sharks.

It’s so so bad, that it just slid all the way to cool. I guess they bet on a movie formula, and for some weird unknown reason it worked. Sharknado has created such a buzz that they’re actually making a sequel for it.

I remember watching Jaws when I was 7 years old, and that movie stopped me from swimming in the sea for a good 5-6 years. Sharknado, on the other hand, makes me want to go look for sharks and punch them out boxing style.

The Wikileaks movie trailer

I didn’t even know they were making a movie about wikileaks. But I must admit, the trailer looks really intriguing. “The Fifth Estate” is about Julian Assange, wikileak’s founder.

When wikileaks came to the surface three years ago, no one knew it would be this scandalous. WikiLeaks published secret US Military documents, covering military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. It also covered other hot topics; such as Scientology, Henry Kissinger’s Middle East peace talks, and American profiling and investigation of foreign ambassadors to the USA.

Some of the leaks were about Kuwait, specifically covering our Interior Minister’s suggestions on how to handle Kuwaiti Guantanamo detainees [link1 & link2]. It also leaked documents that predicted the Fukushima nuclear disaster, released documents warned that Japanese nuclear plants weren’t capable of withstanding strong earthquakes [link].

The movie will be released in October, but I don’t know if it will also be released here in Kuwait. I personally am very interested in watching this movie, like I’m sure many people are too.

Instagram’s first ever movie trailer

This is the first ever movie trailer posted on Instagram, using its new video feature that was introduced last month. The groundbreaking movie trailer is for Ashton Kutcher’s Steve Jobs movie.
