This Could be my New Blackberry Phone

This new Blackberry 9790 was announced last month, and it’s already released in Kuwait. This phone has three main advantages over the BB flagship 9900: a keyboard, an autofocus camera, and great battery life.

VIVA announced last week that it’ll have 4G service in Kuwait with the start of the new year [link]. Their 4G network already covers all of the coastal line, plus a lot of other areas. Since I really want to try 4G service, I thought of getting a new BB to replace of my old 9700.

For me, the 9790 is a better choice than the 9900: it has a real keyboard, is smaller and thinner and lighter, has strong battery life, and more importantly has autofocus (I can never buy anything that doesn’t have autofocus). Question now is does it have 4G abilities? Sadly, I wasn’t able to get an answer to this question by googling it online.

Note: I’m not saying buy this phone from Eureka. Though Eureka is offering a great price for such a great phone, but  the lack of an Arabic KB gives it a cheaper look IMO. I’ve never used the Arabic KB on my 9700, but I would like the phone to look normal in Kuwait.

Update: I sent a tweet to Zain & VIVA asking them if the BB 9790 is 4G ready. Zain says that it’s not, and I’m still waiting for VIVA’s reply. But the answer obviously should be the same, that the phone isn’t 4G ready.

Top Ten Apps of the Year

  1. Angry Birds.
  2. Facebook.
  3. Skype.
  4. Angry Birds Rio.
  5. Google Maps.
  6. iBooks.
  7. Angry Birds Seasons.
  8. Fruit Ninja.
  9. Talking Tom.
  10. Twitter.

The list covers the seven major App stores; including the: iPhone, Android, iPad, Blackberry, and Nokia stores. I have all of these apps on my iPhone or iPad; there are some I don’t like or haven’t even used at all. I didn’t like: Talking Tom, the Fruit Ninja, or Angry Birds Rio. And I’ve never used iBooks, because I exclusively use my Kinde2 for reading.

The list looked into free plus paid downloads, that’s why the list is so accurate and credible.

Pamper Yourself This New Year with 4G Service from VIVA

VIVA has just announced that it will offer 4G mobile services with the beginning of the new year, i.e. in just a couple of weeks. This is major news for mobile users. There’s a huge difference between 3G and 4G mobile networks, mostly summarized in the following:

  • 4G internet speed is 10 times that of a 3G network. We’re talking about 100Mbps for a moving user (in a car or a train) and 1Gbps for a pedestrian or stationary user.
  • The availability of Quality of Service (QoS) feature, which means that internet connection priority is given to certain important applications like VoIP and HD videos first, above other nonessential uses.
  • This feature ensures a flawless VoIP connection at all times for mobile users, and the ability to watch HD videos right from their handsets.
  • 4G won’t affect\improve\worsen call quality and call drops, so don’t expect any improvement or change in this area.

VIVA 4G coverage in Kuwait will start by covering a few high-use areas in the beginning, but VIVA’s Chairman promised that 4G investment will be ongoing all through 2012, which should ensure complete Kuwait coverage.

To give you an idea how this VIVA launching is such a big deal, the USA didn’t get any 4G coverage till Q3&4 of this year, and only covering a limited number of cities, 62 cities so far.

I’m personally looking forward to testing this new 4G technology, so I guess it is right about time to upgrade my ancient 2-year old 9700 BB to something more 4G compatible. Any BB recommendations?

It’ll be a good thing to do too, i.e. comparing a 4G VIVA BB with a 3.5G Zain iPhone. So far I’m not very convinced that my Zain iPhone can replace my Quality-Net home wi-fi connection (or even the ego one in chale), which is kinda the point of getting a 3G connection on your smartphone in the first place.

Super congrats goes out to VIVA. This is really awesome news. Hopefully, coverage will be over most areas users want, and the service will be kind of acceptable in terms of pricing and usage caps.

The Most Amazing Light Show Ever… What Al-Hamra’s Show Should Have Been Like

Checkout Nokia’s amazing light show, celebrating the launch of it’s new Lumia 800 phone. The event took place in London on the river Thames, and I have got to say this: it was mighty super dazzling.

When I saw it, I immediately thought of the terrible boring light show Al-Hamra had a few weeks ago. Why didn’t they get the guy who did Nokia’s light show? Do you think it’s too late for Al-Hamra to change their program? It would be so cool to have this light show in Kuwait.

You have got to check the vid out, it’s the most amazing 4D show anyone has ever seen. They’re using a huge building as the backdrop for the show, and you can literally see the building transform into a multi-dimensional surface. It’s just beyond wow.

Get Your Unlocked iPhone 4S Directly from Apple at Really Great Prices

If you’re looking for an iPhone 4S, you probably got frightened by its ridiculously inflated prices in Kuwait. Therefore, a lot of people bought it from the Apple UK store.

But now the American Apple store [link] is selling the new iPhone 4S, contract free. And at super attractive prices too. The 16 GB one costs just KD 187, while the 64 GB one costs KD 235.
