Pictures taken from here & here. This is a terrifying situation, it’s very serious and very dangerous; I don’t know how this could’ve happened in a country like Saudi Arabia.

You can check the Saudi blog, New Vision, she has more than a dozen updates on the flood rain disaster.

Oh this was news to me. I have been away from Saudi Arabia for some 13 years now. When I was in Jeddah the same situation took place. I think the year was 1997 and it was either 2nd or 9th September.. I was working in a multi-national company there. I was due for vacation in a week’s time and hence I had done lots of shopping. Suddenly, the blue sky turned black. It began to pour. It was a very very heavy rainfall. This was incredible. Such rains in Saudi Arabia? I was staying in a ground floor house. My hosue got flooded. I had to put all the purchases on the bed. The shoes and the slippers were swimming in my flat. Suddenly the clouds vanished and the sky was bright blue once again. It looked as if it had never rained. I could never forget this experience. The trouble that I had in getting my carpets and things dry is another story.
