In Support of Our Saudi Friends

(CNN) — Saudi women have been encouraged to challenge the status quo and get behind the wheel Friday.

The initiative is called “Women2Drive,” a campaign demanding the right for women to drive and travel freely in Saudi Arabia.

Though there are no traffic laws that make it illegal for women to drive in Saudi Arabia, religious edicts are often interpreted as a ban against female drivers. One female motorist spent more than a week in custody in May, supporters said.

The day was expected to be a test of wills, and authority, between police and the campaign, which has been publicized by Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

Wo0w It Amazes Me How They Are Willing To Keeo on Fighting For Their Rights..
It’s Really Not A Crime For women To Drive.. And As LOng As There Is No Law That Crimes It Then Why Is Everybody Against it..!! Wish Them Luck.. 😀

Exactly. They’re showing a lot of courage driving in public and protesting like that. Because you never know they’ll get punished. The legal system in Saudi is purely left to mazaj elqathi. I wouldn’t be surprised if a woman get lash sentencing over this driving issue.

That’s why it is super courageous of them to protest this way.

I am not quiet sure where some individuals in KSA got their strange beleifs from. It is not against Islam to drive.

    • buzfairy says:

No it’s not. I wish they would change the rule soon. Basically, Saudi women on average are more educated than their male counterparts. It just doesn’t make sense, la religiously wala financially, to ban women from driving over there.

  3. virgo says:

I think it is an act of terrorism what the males in KSA are doing because they are terrorising the women! Human Rights should do something about this.
