Linux Celebrates 20 Years

This post goes to one of my friends, the only one I know who uses Linux. He’s been using it for years. I’m going to venture and say for something close to 12 years so far.

With Linux, I feel so outdated with technology; even though I’ve been an avid early Mac user from way back in the stone age day. Anyways, congratulations Linux and baby Android and may you have a Happy 20th.

More info can be found over at the Linux Foundation.

NBK is Looking for Part-Time Kuwaitis

The hours are flexible, can either  be during the morning shift or the evening ones. The minimum requirement is a high school diploma.

Top Management Salaries in Kuwaiti Banks

This table is very interesting. It’s the first time ever that banks disclose how much they pay their top management, in salaries, stock options, and other indemnities.

  • It shows NBK and KFH paying more than KD 10 Million, each, in compensation to their top managers.
  • NBK people deserve every penny, they’ve been working hard since the financial crises and their efforts show in NBK’s profits and share price.
  • KFH people, on the other hand, don’t deserve this at all. KFH’s profits have dropped significantly, and the share price has gone down by more than 70% in the past couple of years. I don’t see how they could justify getting this money.
  • Bobyan is quite funny, having the biggest payout-to-profits percentage of all banks, at 20%. That means nearly 1 in every 5 workers work just to pay the top management. Its like forget the shareholders.
  • Commercial Bank’s payout of just Kd 1 million makes me feel sad for the managers over there. This hardly seems fair, considering CBK’s big size and adequate performance.

Like I said, this is one interesting table.

How in the hell do my shares in NBK and KFH both drop by 60-160 fils in a month? Whilst at the same time watch Kuwait’s oil price has go up by more than 50%?

I don’t speculate. I don’t invest in non-operational companies. I don’t even look at non-viable sectors. I invest in solid, loaded with profits banks. Don’t tell me I didn’t do my homework. There is no reason for me losing hard earned money.

How do you explain these loses to me? I worked hard for my money to stand quite to see it evaporate like this.

This has been going on for a long time now, ever since August 2008. That is quite a long time for investors to stay quite. Enough is enough.

Ya 7ukooma, get your act together and do something. NOW!!

This is totally unacceptable!!!!

There’s no Service Charge in Dubai

I’ve just noticed that none of Dubai’s restaurants, cafes, or even bars charge any service charge. This is a lot better than the mandatory 10-15% we have to pay in Kuwait, whether you liked or hated the service.

Sad news from Wataniya Airways

  • Wataniya Airways will stop their flights to Bahrain, Amman, Jeddah, and Damascus.
  • Frequency of flights to Dubai will also be reduced.
  • These changes will take affect from Dec 5, 2010.

This is truly sad. I don’t fly on Wataniya much, but having the airline there when making a booking adds much needed competition in terms of both service and price.

I hope this is just temporary, and that they would atleast add the Bahrain & Jeddah routes soon.
