Free calls from Zain

I just got a great phone call from Zain. They want to celebrate the anniversary of me getting my number from them, by giving me 800 free minutes.

I don’t remember what year I got my number, but I’m betting it’s either 1998-1999. And this is the first time ever that I get a free offer on my anniversary. It’s kinda late in my view.

Of course, between my Wiyana subscription and my two other phones, I can’t see how I would even get to benefit from their gift. But who cares and a big what ever. I’m just super happy with this gift. Like a true Kuwaiti, I relish any freebie.

Renaming multiple files on your Mac

I sometimes need to rename batches of files, and then add a numbering sequence. It takes a lot of time, and sometimes gets boring and confusing.

Then I started using “A Better Finder Name“. This thing is super easy, you can rename anything, and start anywhere. You just specify what goes before the numbering, and choose what number to start from. It’s really that easy and is done in seconds, and I highly recommend it.

It’s totally free, as long as you stick to renaming 10 files at a single time. You can download it here.

How to back up or get music from iPod without iTunes

My previous post about getting back your music or videos from iPod\iPad got people confused. Because I had used the word “Free” in the title, it miss led some readers to think I meant to steal music.

However, what I meant was to introduce a new way to get back your music or video (or other people’s) if ever find your self in a position where you can’t use iTunes anymore. Which is the case with me these days after my MacBook died and I had to install a new Hard Disc.

I couldn’t use iTunes anymore, because it meant that all my pictures (the last few ones ย that I do have left on the iPad) will get wiped and deleted. I still have to find a way to extract them. But in the mean time, I did manage to get back my music and videos; which was what I was trying to explain in my previous post ๐Ÿ˜‰

Get music from other peoples’ iPods for free

Update:ย Read this.

You know how every iPod\iPad has to be synced with just one iTunes library? And how it means that you can never get songs or videos you like from your friends’ devices? Well, there is a very simple program that allows you to take what ever music or video you like out of other iPods.

Double Twist is very simple to use (and free). You just run it, connect the iPod, and exit iTunes. Then you take whatever you want from the iPod. Only downside is that the video names are messed up when they appear on your hard disc. But this isn’t a problem after all, because the names do appear correct when you add them back to iTunes.

If you remember, my MacBook died on me last week, which means that I can’t sync my iPod and iPad back with iTunes without losing my huge collection of music and videos. With Double Twist, I was able to get back everything. I added the stuff back to iTunes. This means that I get to sync my devices again and still have everything.

Well, not everything. The playlist ordering is gone along with genius mixes. But that isn’t a problem. I can manually make the list back on iTunes from the listing in the ipod before I sync stuff back.

I’m still not going to sync back at this time, because I haven’t found a way to get my pictures out of the iPad yet. So no syncing for me till I find a way to do that!

Where to feed your friends when they Visit Kuwait

We all have GCC and Arab friends that come visit us for a few days. We try to make them come during the wonderful months between November and March, in an attempt to deceive them about our devilishly hot weather.

If you’re like me, I don’t mind having them come visit during the summer months. I like the sea, enjoy the beach, and love water activities. Therefore, it goes without saying that if anyone visits me in the summer; be sure we’ll be spending most of out time in chale. Only problem is the unpredictable dusty weather. That would be the only thing stopping us from having a good beach\sea time. (Insert an sincere apology for my Saudi friends whom witnessed 3 full days AND nights of dust last week,, sorry girls, so so sorry).

Anyways. There are a few places, i.e. food stuffing places, that every visitor asks to go to:

  • We have to start the day with Breakfast at the Early Bird Cafe (have no clue why, even though I’m gonna head there after this post to have breakfast and Coffee).
  • Go for dinner at the ever so trendy Slider Station or the recently opened Open Flame Kitchen.
  • Enjoy the view at Marina Crescent and Marina Waves.
  • Have a late Lebanese lunch, after swimming, at Al-Mijana in Al-Koot Mall.
  • Have a very late night Milk shake and apple pie ala mode in Johnny RocketsManshar Mall.
  • Enjoy an early evening snack and dessert at Chocolate Macaroon in Jlai3a.
  • Now if your friends are shway classy or pertinacious, then you obviously have to take them for breakfast at Dean And Deloca in Avenues.
  • Enjoy a cup-a-joe at Starbucks Free Trade Zone, and just watch all the cool bikers with their cool bikes. What a sight.

Bon appetit, mes amisโ€ฆ

A post about what to do in Kuwait is on the way…
