Abu Saleem Sandwiches

I passed by Abu Saleem sandwiches in Jabriya, beside El-Kanafani on 4th Ring Rd., and ordered some sandwiches. I ordered potato/eggplant (comes with salad and tahina), haloum (comes with olive spread), and foul (comes with salad and tahina) sandwiches.

The sandwiches tasted great, the bread was really soft and rich, and the sandwiches come with complimentary olives and pickles. But honestly, they tasted great just as they are. Abu Saleem also sells fata, emsa2a3a, homous, foul, and mutabal; those come in either plastic containers or in cute clay bowls.

Their prices are very reasonable, most sandwiches are 250-350 fils sandwiches, except for the Holoum which is 650 fils. The bowls are like a kd each, with the clay ones at 2kd. Abu Saleem’s phone number is: 25348101.

No More BBQing on the Beach in Kuwait

Weekend BBQers on public beaches and parks now face a fine of up to KD 300 [source].

There has always been a law against public BBQing in non-designated areas, for fire safety and general cleanliness issues, but people were still BBQ all the time. Maybe this new KD 300 fine might deter most of them from illegally BBQing outside again.

Rotten Spoiled Croissant in the Hands of a Child in Kuwait

I got these pictures via twitter. What would you do if this had happened to you? Do you go to the Consumer Protection Agency, go to the co-op or supermarket you bought it from, call the manufacturer?

Nothing you do will help. Companies in Kuwait thrive on torturing consumers and obnoxiously  and systematically lowering consumer standards. You’ll never get vindicated for this, or be able to sue them or get a legal action against anyone.

I feel sorry for the kid and for his parents, this rotten croissant incident is very scary.

The problem with individually sealed foods or snacks is that you can’t check the food for yourself before giving it to your kids. And your kids will most probably take it with them to school or somewhere away from you. So unless the kid can spot the difference between good and rotten food, a case of food poisoning is almost certain.

The International Local Flavors of McDonald

McDonald’s tries to offer local flavors in the local markets they’re in. You get french baguette in France, Rye bread in Finland, Haloum Muffin in Kuwait… etc.

Most of these local sandwiches are offered for a limited time only. And honestly speaking, most of them are not that delicious anyways. Having said that, I do miss the Halloum breakfast Muffin, that was one great delicious sandwich.

Lunch at Sakura Fintas

Yesterday we had lunch at Sakura Fintas. I’ve started to fall in love with Sakura again during these past couple of years, their food has gotten tastier and more delicious.

They started to get creative with their makis, and now have several great choices like: caterpillar, volcano, and caramel, that compete really well with other Maki places in Kuwait. I also love their spicy edimame, their crab avocado salad, and many of their starters.

The pictures here are of: spicy crab avocado salad, spicy edimame, prawn tempura, prawn mayo, and the volcano maki.

If you haven’t been to Sakura recently, I recommend you do. They really have improved their menu and began to offer more modern japanese dishes, just like the other newer japanese places in Kuwait.

Sakura has three branches in Kuwait: Crowne Plaza hotel in Farwaniya, Multaqa Al-She3eb on Gulf Rd opposite Corniche club, and Fintas just before Spoons food mall.

Home Delivery Service From TGI Fridays

I didn’t know that Fridays had a home delivery service. Their numbers are: 22251347/8/9.

Bu Jamal Pickles Gets a Facelift الوجه الجديد لآشار منجا بوجمل

Achar mango Bu Jamal is a fixed old stable on every Kuwaiti table, it dates from way back in the day. Back then, its terrible steely cover was somewhat acceptable, even though you had to handle the jar with a towel so you don’t cut or scrape your hand.

But as the years passed by, less and less people bought Bu Jamal, because the cap always looks dirty and dangerous. I’m glad someone decided to give it a facelift.

While walking in the co-op the other day, I noticed that they changed Bu Jamal’s bottles completely. They now have a modern cap, are clean looking, and screw on and off easily. However, only the mango achar uses these new bottles, the other flavors still use the old ones. But since mango pickles are the only ones people buy, who cares about the rest.

Nutella Fateer Mushaltet فطير مشلتت بالنوتيلا

I saw someone post a picture of a Nutella fateer mushaltat on Intagram a few days ago, and it got stuck in my mind ever since. So today, after having lunch at Pizzetta, we walked over to Mubarakiya, and had one at Dalag Duhail retsurant. We weren’t disappointed. It was hot and delicious, and completely satisfying.

I totally recommend you try it next time you’re in Mubarakiya.
