New Jabriya 4th Ring Rd. Entrance

A new entrance into Jabriya, from the 4th Ring Rd. has been opened a couple of days ago. Now you can get into Jabriya, without having to go through the busy Hardees and McDonald’s street.

The new entrance has two turns. If you take the first right, then it takes you to Dragon Restaurant, Pinkberry, and Early Bird side.

If you continue straight just a little further, then you get to Gulf Bank, backside parking of the co-op and mall, and Jabriya Park.

Jahra Road: Ya Di El Neela

Ya di el neela… Yalahwi… Oh My God… That should put my reaction into prospective, I just read in the papers that Jahra Rd. works will not be finished till 2016.

It’s already a huge mess, how is it possible that a short road will take more than 4 years to revamp (not build from scratch)?

When I got my eye thing a few days ago and wanted to go Al-Bahar Eye Hospital in Al-Sabah Medical Area, I knew I couldn’t take the 1st ring rd., not after its revamp was been opened a couple of months ago. The revamp was a idiotic effort that made an easy straight road into a stupid round-around-the-globe mess. So forget about me taking the 1st to Al-Sabah.

Anyways, I usually take the 1st Ring Road to Jamal AbdulNaser St., which takes me directly to Al-Sabah Medical Area. However, after the revamp of the 1st ring rd., I don’t know how to get to Jamal AbdulNaser from it anymore. It’s just a stupid puzzle of a mess.

Anyways, I decided to go through the 3rd ring rd., but then it turns out that Jahra road access from Shuwaikh Industrial area has been blocked too. You now have to cut through Shuwaikh industrial (from the garages rd.) to Shuwaikh industrial (city center side), then make a u-turn, and drive back towards Al-Sabah. Like a silly Ju7a wain athoonik” kind of joke.

And now they say that Jahra Rd. works will not finish till 2016? Why? And can you guarantee it won’t end up like the messy 1st ring rd. revamp? I don’t feel like driving anymore.

I Love This Art Piece from Shurooq Amin

This painting is called “My Harem in Heaven” by local Artist Dr. Shurooq Amin.

Yesterday was the opening of her new art show “It’s a Man’s World“ in Salhiya Complex. But sadly, that show was suddenly shut down by authorities.

Someone complained that Shurooq’s art show was pornographic and insulting to the general taste and decorum. The fact that Dr. Shurooq is a respected professor at prestigious Kuwait University made no difference whatsoever against the complaint.

Surooq’s view of art was beyond what authorities view as acceptable. They even threatened to fine her and the gallery  owner for showing ‘Mu5ela’ pieces.

The shutdown of Shurooq’s show last night together with today’s proposed 7eshma law is just disgusting.

I’m tired, as a lot of people are, of others dictating what’s socially acceptable. They are not better than us. They are not smarter than us. They are not more Kuwaiti than us. They are not even more respectable people than us.

Kuwait is for all of us. As much as we tolerate their so-called-religious-moralistic beliefs, they’ve got to respect our more tempered and civilized views of what these are.

I’m a Kuwaiti, I’m a Muslim; but I still enjoy beautiful art like Shurooq’s, and beautiful sites like people wearing bathing suits and having fun on the beach. These people look so happy, comfortable, and relaxed; that they inspire tranquility, peace, and tolerance to us all.

I Am A Kuwaiti.

This Is My Country.

I Love Shrooq’s Art.

I Love People Wearing Bathing Suits On The Beach.

I Love People Hanging Out and Having Fun.

I Have The Right To Live In A Tolerant Society.

Compreender?

Like seriously, do you compreender what I’m saying?

This Is My Country!

Not Yours Alone.

If you don’t, then feel free to join all the other hypocrite dimwits we got in parliament and ministries council.

I have said this before.

It’s the fact that we have money is what’s making us act so carelessly about our country. We can afford to be hypocritical. We all fly out every chance we get. And for what: To do and enjoy the exact sort of thing we preach against here in our own country.

That’s why Kuwait was a lot more tolerant throughout old history. I hope we continue to be a rich country, but I also hope we can be tolerant again. A country who’s every segment feels free and comfortable in. We are tired from what a few force us to accept. We are a “Many”. We can win this.

This isn’t the time to be hypocritical at all. It’s the time of standing up for what we believe, of stating the obvious: Kuwait has lapsed decades into the past, just because of a few ugly loud voiced extremists.

So stop listening to them. It’s time to take action and stand for progress and development, stand for our historical traditions:

For What You Want Kuwait To Be!

Twitter Officially Available in Arabic

Twitter just announced on their blog that they now officially have Twitter in Arabic, in addition to three other right-to-left languages: Hebrew, Urdo and Farsi.

This would be the first time Twitter has supported right-to-left writing. Let’s hope now that it’s official, things will actually look different than how we normally read everyday.  I think maybe question marks and hashtags will work better with this new language support.

Finally: 11 New Planes for Kuwait Airways

Kuwait Airways is finally getting 11 new planes, to be added to the 17-19 it has at the moment. The purchase process is still in the planning phase and will probably take a couple of years few months to finish, but still, this is great news.

As much as Kuwait Airways tries hard to compete [check here], having an old and very outdated fleet makes it impossible to compete.

Purple Wonder: The Purple colored Strawberries

“Purple Wonder is sweet and aromatic, with outstanding strawberry flavor,” … “But the color is something you won’t be able to find in any grocery store.”

The medium-sized berries reward patience in picking: Berries turn from creamy white to red before ripening into an intense burgundy.

“The color develops all the way through the fruit, which might surprise consumers accustomed to supermarket fruit with color mostly on the surface,” said Weber. “And letting the fruit ripen on the plant just makes the berries sweeter.”

The berries and their purple juice can also be used to produce deep colored preserves and strawberry wine, and Purple Wonder’s high antioxidant content gives them a healthy boost [source].

No More Sex Discrimination in Kuwait University Admissions

I believe this new legal verdict is mightily monumental.

It’s been years since Kuwait University started adopting the unfair male\female admission policy criteria at Kuwait University, especially in the highly competitive sought after colleges like Med. school and Engineering.

In a historic verdict, Kuwaiti Courts have ruled against this sex-descriminating anti-constitutional admissions’ policy. They ruled against KU’s admission policy and in favor of female applicants instead: because female applicants at KU were unconstitutionally discriminated against based on their gender.

I fall in love with our Kuwaiti consitution a little more every day because of verdicts like this one. The courts quoted the constitution is making this historic verdict:

Congratulations to all our female KU applicants, this truly is a historic and justly verdict. May this be an early life lesson to our male students, to study better and harder. Life isn’t always going to favor the lazy underachievers, life is much tougher than that.
