Great deal on Wagyu burgers in Kuwait

Kobe Wagyu burger patties Kuwait

Update: These are not the original AusKobe patties, these are Sultan Center’s own brand. That explains why they don’t stock AusKobe anymore, and why this one is so much cheaper.

These wagyu beef burgers used to cost KD 1.950 a patty some 2-3 year ago. Up from KD 1.150-1.250 7-10 years prior. That meant it wasn’t worth buying those frozen patties, when you could get fresh ones at KD 2.5 a piece.

I’m glad to inform you that they’re back to a very reasonable and affordable price of 990 fils.

Here’s a [link] to Mark’s review of the burgers from 8 years ago. How time flies. Anyways, the review is still spot on. They are still the best burgers to have, if you don’t count getting fresh ones.

And honestly, haven’t we all been in that tight spot looking trying to find something gourmet-ish to cook at a minute’s notice? If you know what I mean, then these bad boys are for you. They go from freezer to pan in a snap. Mark cooks them on 5 minutes 4 times intervals. I personally prefer them on a 3 minutes 4 times rotation.

Either way, go snag a dozen of these to cook over the Eid holidays (Thank you sir, that’ll be KD 12). I recommend a pan not a BBQ grill, just because the BBQ is too hot for them and you want them juicy and moist. Plus, you get the added bonus of grilling opinions if you do it over a pan.

I found them at the freezers in The Sultan Center a few days ago.

If you would rather have this beef cooked for you at a restaurant, then you can’t go wrong with the “Roma” burger with Mushroom sauce at Open Flame Kitchen in 360° mall (KD 10-12 I’m not sure) or make your own burger at the Burger Boutique in Al-Rayya mall (maybe KD 5-ish?… But also make sure you pick the portabello mushroom sauce).

Bon appetit.

AlQabas newspaper Kuwait August 2 2014Today is the 24th anniversary of the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait. This fact does not show on page one of AlQabas newspaper today. The worst thing that has ever happened to Kuwait is not even mentioned on its first page. And we wonder why the new generation lacks emotion towards or understanding of the invasion?

أسرار القبندي، إحدى شهدائنا الأبطال…  إقروا عنها في جريدة العرب تايمز

On January 14, 1991, Asrar Al-Qabandi was murdered. She was shot five times — four bullets to her chest and the fifth bullet between her eyes, and her head sliced in two by an axe as her body dumped in front of her family’s home by the Iraqi’s. This was the fate of one of the braveset women of Kuwait… of the world. She saved hundreds of Kuwaiti’s during the Gulf War, and came back to Kuwait to save more lives even though she knew the Iraqi’s had found out what she had done. This woman has been dead exactly 19 years. And this is the least we can do in saluting the woman who had died saving lives.

Some of her other victories include smuggling weapons from Basra to Kuwait, money and more weapons from Saudi Arabia, single-handedly destroying the monitored telephones and communications set up by the Iraqis, providing targeted Kuwaitis with new ID’s to protect them from harm, providing foreign families with food and money, and taking care of 65 foreign hostages, risking a guaranteed execution.

The Kuwaiti film: Kan Refeeji فيلم كان رفيجي

Kan Refeeji is a new Kuwaiti film, and it will be shown in cinemas around Kuwait in Eid. I don’t know what the story is about, but it’s got a nostalgic feeling about it. It showed stuff from the 80’s, the actors soft spoken, and it looks like it has a good (or at least a lesson-worthy) ending.

Sexist much?

Anti Corruption Agency

I’m pretty sure this is sexist. Add it to the ever expanding list of unconstitutional stuff you have to fight in Kuwait.

The future king of England, Britain, and the United Kingdom flew economy on one of his trips in the US. I don’t have to wonder if this will ever happen in our region, because it’ll never happen at all.

Julia Louise-Dreyfus killed it at the White House Correspondents dinner. She had lots of politicians with her: the US VP (getting a #45 tattoo, like in the next 45th president of the United States), the first lady (eating ice cream, saying raisons are fruit and fruits are healthy), speaker of the house (their version of our Marzouq, he’s the guy watching pandas on tv), and the minority leader (lady in red). Watching this video makes you want to go and vote for all of them. They were all stars.

It’s the exact opposite of what Marzouq’s interview did last night [here and other here]. His interview made him look spiteful and petty, so unbecoming of his position as the 2nd most important man in Kuwait after the Emir. Someone who is supposed to be a main force of neutrality between disputing MPs or the between the parliament and the government, and a force in the face of major crises. The way he went on and on over Musallam Al-Barrak  reminds you of a high school kid, outcasted by his mates, running to his teachers with lies and telltales, to make him look all powerful and important. That’s not how you do it in politics Marzouq. Very unsmart and so unprofessional of him. He really showed that he doesn’t deserve that position.

Now back to this video. Loved how she made fun of The House of Cards. She nailed Kevin Spacey spot on. Seriously, if you haven’t watched that show, go right now and do it.
