December amazing weekends

 This December  2010 has:

    5 Wednesdays
    5 Thursdays
    5 Fridays

All in one month. It happens only once every 1005 years.

Enjoy all these weekends 🙂

Regarding buzfairy’s question on the odds, I don’t know the specifics. Given there are 7 days of the week with each week, I would say over a period of time as long as 1005 years it averages a 1 in 7 chance the month starts with a Wednesday.

That plays out in the example I gave where it has/will occurred in 2004, 2010, and 2021. That’s too short a time span to be exact, but it is still in the ballpark of occurring 1 in 7 years on average.

        There isn’t 5 weekends in December 2010 – only 4 weekends.

Any 31 day month beginning on a Friday or Saturday is going to give you 5 full weekends. Odds are about 2 in 7 of that occurring on any month with 31 days. Don’t see anything special about it — happens a lot.

Any December where the first day of the month is Wednesday will have 5 Wednesdays, 5 Thursdays, and 5 Fridays.

      It happened in 2004.

It will happen again in 2021.

It will happen many times in next 1005 years.

Common sense should tell you there are 7 days in the week. Out of 1005 years, there is bound to be more than a single December that begins on a Wednesday. Where people get stupid stuff like this and then wind up posting on blogs or emailing to everyone and their brother is beyond me.

What you’re saying makes sense. If the 1t of the month is a Wednesday, then there will be 4 other Wednesdays in that month: the 8th, the 15th, the 22nd, and the 29th.

But what are the odds of a month opening with a Wednesday?

It’s still pretty cool to have 5 weekends in a single month, plus New Year day holiday. That’s like half the month off work 🙂
